Smart Fortwo 450 Starter Motor change. First, remove everything...
What a stupid place to put the starter motor! We opt to drop the entire rear subframe to gain access, but it still isn't easy! The Smart 450 or Fortwo is a bit of a pain to work on.
Huge thanks to Matt and Craig for their help, Evilution for useful information and you for watching.

This did not go to plan... Daewoo Matiz MOT fail!
Переглядів 20 тис.День тому
Never failed an MOT like that before! It was actually aborted... Filmed over a month, this is the story of replacing the washer pump and then chucking it in for an MOT before she was really ready... Myrtle is the Daewoo Matiz I bought new in 1999, sold in 2001 and bought again in 2018. She has been off the road for about 18 months and still needs a fair bit of attention now she's legal again. Factory V8 swap! MG ZT 260 - Mustang power!

MG Rover's battle for survival saw some fascinating creations. Like this! The ZT 260 took the front-wheel drive 75/ZT platform and turned into a fire-breathing rear wheel drive V8 hotrod! Fewer than 900 Rover and MG V8s were built making then super rare. The engine is Ford's modular V8 in 4.6-litre form. Huge shoutout to www.aronline.co.uk which has recently changed hands. Daihatsu Roadtrip - Charade and Tanto! Contains mild peril...

Filmed 2 weeks ago. Join us for a 160-mile trek to Shrewsbury in our 1-litre Daihatsu Charade, to meet a 658cc kei car owned by @LivetoDriveUK . Along the way, we almost run out of fuel, almost run out of oil and discover the noisy wheel bearing as this was filmed a couple of weeks ago. Mini luxury! Wood & Pickett Margrave from 1973
Переглядів 38 тис.День тому
What an astonishing little Mini this is, making a Mayfair look more like pure austerity. Originally a Mini Clubman, Wood & Pickett turned up the luxury to create the Margrave, while owner Roger has added a few tweaks of his own, including a sports exhaust and a 1310cc engine. The result is sheer enjoyment on a tiny scale. HubNut merchandise can be found at hubnut.org - thank you. #mini #luxuryc...

The washer pump looks exactly the same as one I just changed in a VX Holden Commodore, but the Commodore is much easier, no panels to remove, access from under front of car, no tools needed, done in 5 minutes.

I was a young boy at the time that the Marina was current and my parents had a Renault 16 which made the Marina look 20 years out of date, dad loved his Renaults, being a French teacher, and the 16 was a lovely comfortable thing to ride in, with a very futuristic look (to my eyes at the time age about 8) and modern 5 door hatchback design, plus I don’t remember there being any problems with it. After the child head count got to four the Renault was swapped with a Vauxhall Victor FD 1.6 with a bench front seat, thus accommodating one child in the middle of the front bench (mum & dad were very safety conscious so we were all strapped in with those blue webbing child safety belts (possibly made by Kangol?)). I loved the Victor at the time, with its sleek American inspired styling, and was thrilled when dad announced we had hit 100mph briefly on a straight stretch of 1970s dual carriageway.

Fantastic and amazing, Ian! So glad it worked! You needed to disconnect the radiator hoses; you talked about having to refill the coolant. But did you end up having to disconnect the air conditioning system or no?

    • @HubNut

We were able to move the air con pump without disconnecting it due to the generous flexible pipework.

Did you notice a little vague steering during driving straight in the middle position of the steering wheel. Just about 2cm. It feels a little like "swimming" when turning the steering just a little from left to right. Mercedes dealer told me that is normal. Thx for the video

Good to see it now starts, I rebuilt the engine on mine, the first rebuild i have ever done but it was straightforward. Once the engine/subframe is lowered its not much more work to take it out completely and its then much easier to work on.

Might have well bought a Porsche Boxster , more street cred and doing anything to with the engine is just the same way by dropping the engine. God knows why they called it a Smart car as it’s not for your home mechanic or for a garage mechanic because even they say, ‘sorry mate can’t do it’ as it costs so much money in labour time, think how much it would have cost you to get that starter replaced at a garage £100 for the starter and 10 hours labour.
